So winter storm Nemo didn’t exactly rank high on the historical scale as forecasters predicted, but this past weekend the heaving snow and damaging winds spurred viewers to capture an overwhelming number of photos and videos as the blizzard began its downfall Friday evening. Overall, our local news affiliates throughout the northeastern states reported that 29,742 people shared 63,177 pieces of content. In May of last year our first attempt at socially aggregating content for the Cell Journalist platform was accomplished by the launch of the Twitter integration feature. The feature works to pull images associated with our client’s station specific Twitter handle to their Cell Journalist platform. The idea is that whenever breaking news or severe weather occurs, audiences can tweet their photos to their local station’s Twitter profile.
